How to increase your average spend in the salon (without pushing)

Moving upmarket, building offers, selling without pressure: discover concrete strategies to increase your average client spend while building loyalty.

Increasing your average spend doesn't mean "selling more" at any cost. It means offering more value — and pricing it fairly. Here's how to do it without ever feeling like you're pushing a sale.

1. Move upmarket rather than piling on discounts

Lowering your prices to attract clients means attracting a clientele that will leave for the first promotion elsewhere. A premium experience, on the other hand, justifies a higher price and attracts clients who value your work.

2. Build offers, not one-off services

Instead of selling a single treatment, offer:

  • Courses (3 or 6 sessions) at an attractive rate
  • Signature rituals that are more complete and more premium
  • Discovery packages for new clients

A structured offer naturally increases the average amount spent.

3. Recommend, don't sell

The best "upsell" is a sincere recommendation. At the end of the treatment, explain what would genuinely help your client: a complementary treatment, a suitable product, an ideal frequency. You advise; she decides.

4. Highlight the result, not the duration

A client isn't paying for 60 minutes: she's paying for a result and a feeling. Reframe your services around the benefit ("restored radiance," "released tension") rather than the time spent.

5. Perfect the experience to justify the price

The more memorable the experience, the more justified the price feels. A premium welcome, a personalised ritual, attention to detail: that's what turns a price into an obvious choice.

6. Train to be able to offer more

You can only sell what you master. By broadening your skills (facial massage, drainage, emotional support), you can offer more complete treatments… and price them better.

Increasing your average spend starts with increasing perceived value. The sale follows naturally.
